Arjun's Story
by Maddy Reid
Meet Arjun [name changed]: one of the many kids The Freedom Project has been able to support and encourage through our Sports For Life (SFL) program.
After being forced to drop out of school at the young age of 16 due to financial strife at home, Arjun quickly fell into a life of drugs and gang activity.
Never again did he think he would have the amazing opportunity to return to his studies and pursue an education. That was, until the Freedom Project entered his life!
After some of the SFL coaches found him in the slums of Bangalore they were able to convince him to give his education another chance.
Through our Sports For Life Program, Arjun’s world has been opened up to endless opportunities! With support from The Freedom Project team in India., not only was Arjun able to pass his year 10 exams earlier this year, but also had the opportunity to build friendships, be encouraged by mentors and engage in fun physical activity throughout!
Why is it important that we help young boys like Arjun?
It is estimated that 50% of adolescents do not complete their secondary education ( according to Unicef ). This has devastating impacts on the lives of many, for without an education it is unlikely for these young people to have a high socioeconomic status; this increases the likelihood of engagement within the human trafficking industry. The Freedom Project is educating these young males to ensure they can create change within their communities and live a life free from perpetrating slavery.
“The Freedom Project has a BIG vision, a vision of a world without injustice, without inequality, where everyone has the ability to grow into their God given potential” says Anita ( CEO of the Freedom Project India), and it is through our programs like Sports For Life that this vision becomes a greater possibility.
Thanks to our wonderful supporters, such as yourself we can continue to change the lives of young boys and break them out of bondage!
