Mission Under Grace – St Edward Comprehensive School

GIVING HOPE, BUILDING FUTURES

Mission Under Grace is a transformative educational and care initiative located in Sare, Awendo, in western Kenya. This project operates through St. Edward Comprehensive Academy—a school providing vital education, shelter, and care to more than 400 vulnerable children, most of whom are orphans or come from extremely poor backgrounds.

In partnership with The Freedom Project, this initiative represents a beacon of hope for a struggling region, freeing children from danger and extreme poverty.

The school provides boarding to approximately 220 children (100 boys and 120 girls), and provides day schooling to many more. Beyond education, the school ensures children are fed, clothed, and housed in a safe and nurturing Christian environment. It supplies essential items such as sanitary products, medicines, and mosquito nets—life-saving in an area prone to malaria and cholera.

Despite its profound impact, the school receives no government funding. Its continued operation relies entirely on the generosity of donors through The Freedom Project. We keep the teachers paid, the children cared for with food, water, medicine, and sanitary items. The Freedom Project also assisted the school to make mandatory safety upgrades required by the government to ensure that the school could keep operating.

Health education is another vital aspect. The school teaches young people and families about disease prevention, family planning, and the dangers of harmful cultural practices like female genital mutilation. The vision is to someday establish an on-site health clinic to serve both the school and local village.

The immediate care and safety of the children is the primary focus. But we are also looking to the future to help them break free from donor dependence. Mission Under Grace has developed an agricultural strategy for long-term sustainability by growing maize and vegetables on new land. The long-term goal is to operate a school that can sustain itself, provide quality education, and uplift the community without external aid.

Mission Under Grace, supported by donors through The Freedom project, stands as a living testimony to what faith, love, and persistence can achieve. With continued support, this project will not only save lives—it will transform them, offering young people the opportunity to learn, grow, and shape a better future for themselves and their communities.
