OUR VISION

Compelled by love, we see a world free from modern slavery, with justice and hope for all.

OUR MISSION

We are a growing global movement of justice advocates, ending slavery by transforming lives and empowering communities, focused on prevention, rescue, and restoration.

OUR IDENTITY

The Freedom Project is founded on Christian belief and values and God’s heart for justice, flowing out of the personal faith of our founders. This identity shapes what we do, and how and why we do it. We partner with like-minded faith-based partners in the field. However, all the activities we are involved in are for the purposes of justice to all on the basis of need and vulnerability, specifically regarding trafficking and slavery no matter people’s race, religion, gender, or ethnicity.

OUR STORY

Since 2010, The Freedom Project has been a growing global movement of freedom advocates - fighting against the injustice of modern slavery. It all began in 2007, when Liz Newton-Brown first became aware of the horrific plight of trafficked children. She and a group of friends wanted to do something practical, so they organised a fundraiser. However, the burden remained on Liz's heart, and she spent the next couple of years investigating and learning more. Liz and her husband, Mike, then went to India and saw some of the challenges for themselves. Upon returning, Mike and Liz would not stand for the injustices they had seen. They made a commitment to start something and try to make a difference.

In 2010, Liz and Mike launched The Freedom Project. It began with one project in Southeast Asia, which has since developed into a variety of projects in Myanmar, India, and the Philippines, serving over 10,000 vulnerable people each year. Currently, we are working in India, where 18 million of the world’s slaves reside. Our focus is on prevention, rescue, and restoration for individuals and communities involved in or vulnerable to human trafficking and modern slavery. The vision remains the same: to create a movement to fight injustice and bring freedom, one life at a time. Read more about our work through the Freedom News page.

Mike and Liz have a strong mission and international aid background, having spent several years serving overseas. They love working with people and ministering to the vulnerable and oppressed. Their work is shaped by who they are, and they would love you to join them!
