Update on our COVID-19 Emergency Distribution Appeal

As many of you will be aware by now, India has found itself once again in the path of, not just a new wave, but a tsunami of Covid Cases. With up to 4,000 people dying every 24 hours. We are absolutely heartbroken by the situation there, and are working each day to distribute emergency supplies to the poorest of the poor in India’s slums.

As, Anita, CEO of The Freedom Project India recently stated, “it’s more than probable that we’ve still not yet reached the peak number of daily deaths. The number of cases in the cities has gone down, but they’re rising in rural communities, where there is less access to hospitals and other essential services. We fear that things will only get worse before they get better.”

BUT even so, our team in India are bravely and self-sacrificially fighting for justice and dignity as they serve the community. Despite all our staff losing friends and family, and some being infected themselves they are ready for action. They are facing overwhelming need caused by the second wave of this awful virus.

Despite some key staff members having had Covid-19 and since recovering, and other team members are still battling the virus as we write this, The Freedom Project India are on the front lines day after day providing emergency relief, feeding families in dire need – even to the point of cooking and delivering hot meals for people who have tested positive and who would otherwise be going hungry.

Due to lockdowns, our Sports for Life and Anti-trafficking programs have been suspended once again, but the work of JUSTICE and MERCY continues. Our team have switched to full time emergency work and become cooks, critical carers and community relief workers. We are also helping Local Governments place children in care who have lost both parents. It’s all just devastating, but we are there with a hand of help and hope.

With all that being said, we desperately need your help and support. The Freedom Project need you right now, to do two things:

1.       We need you to give generously. Each tax-deductible donation of just $60 will help us feed one family in India’s slum communities for an entire month, as well as go towards providing medical equipment to 5 local mission hospitals with whom we are in partnership. How many families can you feed this End of Financial Year?

Please hit the donation button today and help our team on the front lines, and

2.       We need you to share the news. If we are to have a shot at winning this battle, we need all your friends to hear about what’s happening in India to bring awareness, advocacy and funds to those who need it most.

Please share this blog with someone today.
