Chiang Rai city in Thailand has flooded and our partners urgently need help!

Food - Water - Cleaning - Replacing Essentials

Our team has been on the ground in Chiang Rai for a couple of weeks already, having gone over to work on communications and details for our new projects there. On Tuesday the new banner for the Hangout was printed and was going to be hung up on Wednesday in preparation for a grand opening on Sunday. However on Wednesday everyone woke up to the city quickly flooding and everything quickly changed direction.

The team had to evacuate their accomodation and move to higher ground, so they are safe, and have stayed to assist our local partners as the situation unfolds. Thankfully the flood only lasted 24 hours or less for most, however it has left behind a few inches of mud on almost everything it touched.

Our team have been doing what they can in assisting our Thai partners to cook food and then distribute it via an evacuation centre where 150 people are sleeping.

The Shalom Home which is one of our new projects housing teenage girls from high risk situations went under water by about 30cm. The girls were evacuated early and are now sleeping in a local community church along with other displaced people. The difficult cleanup has begun and will likely take a week or more. The mud is still wet, however it is drying which will then make cleaning much more difficult.

Our team is remaining in Chiang Rai for some time to assist our local partners and oversee the rebuilding work.

We’re looking to raise an initial $15,000 for the immediate aid and cleanup of Shalom Home as well as other homes in the local community. Our other projects in Thailand have not been effected by the flooding.
