Swapna's story: 2022 End Of Financial Year Appeal

By Sara Ralphs

In the slum cities of Bangalore, life for kids is nothing like here in Australia. Our kids play with smartphones and consoles, go to clean, safe schools and are mostly sheltered from the many horrors that take place in this broken world.

Sadly, this same protection is not afforded for the more than 18 million people still trapped, trafficked or enslaved in India alone. But we are fighting to change that, one life at a time.

Swapna’s story: From Victim to Advocate

One life transformed, now fighting to transform others.

Swapna was kidnapped as a baby by a trafficker. She grew up in a syndicate that forced children to beg for money. Every day she walked many kilometres begging in the streets of Bangalore, desperately trying to reach the amount of money the traffickers demanded.

Some years ago, a team of city police and TFP staff rescued Swapna and 300 other children in a drive against child beggary. She was 9 years old at the time. All attempts to trace her birth family yielded no results and so she was placed in a residential school to begin her education.

After turning 18 we brought her to our Azadi shelter home where she completed her 10th grade exams and is now studying at University! Her ambition is to become a social worker who rescues and rehabilitates young children like her, to give them a brighter and better future.

‘I dream of an India where no child has to beg.’

Today, Swapna is a confident young woman full of joy and energy. She enjoys organising and running events and displays tremendous leadership skills. Hers is a testimony of hope and gratitude for the gift of freedom.

A gift of just $97 can help us perform a rescue operation
