Bharath's Story

This Christmas season, as we prepare our puddings and decorate our trees, there are still 50 million people trapped in slavery in across the world. With two more people trafficked every minute. We can’t simply wait and just rescue people from slavery, we have to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Well here at The Freedom Project, we are already on it. Our Sport For Life (SFL) trafficking-prevention program specifically targets at-risk youth and provides them with life-changing education and mentorship through football to help stop them from becoming victims or perpetrators of slavery.

There are over 1200 boys in the program currently, each one with a unique story of transformation. All from the slum communities of Bangalore, and none of whom would ever have had the opportunity to go to school without the help of supporters like YOU. So this holiday season, will you consider partnering with us today by making a $50 donation?

Lives Transformed Thanks to People Like You: Meet 16-year-old Bharath [below]. Before The Freedom Project entered his life 2 years ago, he was already involved in gang activity and kept ending up on the wrong side of trouble. His father works hard as a tailor to provide for his family but with dismal wages the family couldn’t afford to send the kids to school, which meant that Bharath spent more time with the wrong people. The spiral only continued until one day, coach Siddan found him on one of his house-visits and invited him to Sport For Life.

Bharath’s interest was piqued, largely due to his love of football, and the rest was history. He’s now in high school and working hard both on the pitch and in the classroom. His dream is to study business to help grow his father’s work and support his parents when they get older. ‘My parents never gave up on me, but it wasn’t until I saw how hard the Sport For Life coaches worked for players like me that I realised I couldn’t give up on myself either’

Our projects face huge needs: while we perform over 1000+ house visits each month to disadvantaged youth - like the one which introduced Bharath to SFL - there is still so much more to be done. We know that the link between poverty, a lack of education and personal disempowerment leads to exploitation. The Freedom Project team faces this melting pot now more than ever.

Please help us meet the challenge by donating today.

This Christmas, we’re looking to raise $125,000!

In 2022, we had 250 more kids join the Sport For Life program. What a blessing! Our Christmas target of $125,000 can help keep these all 250 of these new players in the program for a whole year, plus allow an additional 375 kids to join for the year of 2023!

We can hit this target if 2500 people like you give just $50 this December!

Will YOU help us change the lives of hundreds of children this Christmas like Bharath and bring freedom from poverty this Christmas, by giving today?

100% of all support for our programs comes from donors like you! Your generosity keeps our projects in prevention, rescue and restoration alive and thriving.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you. Not for our sake, but on behalf of those we serve.
