Our History

The Freedom Project was established in 2010 by Michael and Liz Newton-Brown, as an International Christian Justice Organization working to eradicate human trafficking and slavery.

Missionaries to Uganda and Kenya during the 1990’s, Michael, Liz and their 3 young children, returned home to Sydney, Australia in 1998. They spent the next few years building a retail business, investing in their local church and other ministries and raising their kids. However, their growing awareness and knowledge of the issues of slavery and trafficking began to deeply impact them and they sensed a strong call to respond. After travelling to countries including Uganda, Cambodia, Thailand, India and the USA, to research the issues of slavery and trafficking, the scope of the problem compelled them to act.

The Freedom Project was borne from and continues to be built on 2 strong convictions:

1. Authentic Christian faith is always accompanied by good deeds.

2. The injustice of modern day slavery offends the heart of God and must be stopped.
