Biblical Justice
The Gospel means so much more than just personal salvation. We are called to be carriers of the Good News - to go out into the world building and extending His Kingdom. God has shown us how to live out our lives as His disciples through the glorious example of Jesus. He has made it clear throughout the whole bible that compassion, mercy, justice, righteousness and reconciliation are His heartbeat. If our personal faith in Jesus has no outward expression in these areas then we are in danger of living with a hole in our Gospel and are not fully representing who Jesus is. Belief, worship, morality, discipleship and community are NOT enough. Our commitment to Christ must be worked out and displayed in our day to day lives. This is authentic faith.
(see James 2:14-17) This is the ministry of reconciliation.
Jesus' words in Matthew 25 have been key to our hearts being stirred towards sewing our lives for "the last and the least" on this earth.
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me." Then the righteous will answer him saying, "Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?" And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me". Matthew 25: 35-40
The life of Jesus is our greatest example and He himself had a mission statement that we endeavour to follow.
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour". Luke 4: 18-29
